Typical Daily Budgets for Business Travelers

Business traveling is expensive, especially for entrepreneurs and small business owners. Statistics show that business travelers spend about 8-9 times more than domestic travelers, on accommodation, transportation and other expenses.

The average costs of typical daily budgets include:

  • airline tickets plus reservation change fees – about $400 for national flights and $1000 for international flights
  • renting a car will cost you $45-50 per day
  • restaurant meals will add up to $100 per day
  • staying at a hotel – about $170 per day

Business traveling can be more affordable than this, with some research, smart planning and strategies.  If you are staying for a longer time in a certain place like Texas, you may want to look at furnished apartments San Antonio offers as an affordable method for housing.  Other cities offer great stays too!

First, check websites and compare several airlines. Do not go exclusively for national or international companies; often, small local airlines will offer you very competitive rates, so make sure to put them on your list.

Consider corporate housing instead of hotels, especially if you travel for longer periods. A corporate apartment is fully furnished; you have your own equipped kitchen where you can make your food, buy your beverages and snacks, instead of paying for expensive restaurant meals. However, if corporate housing is not an option for you and you must stay at a hotel, choose an offer with breakfast included in price.

Last but not least, try to find accommodation close to your work, so you can save on public transportation.

Cost Saving Tips For Business Travelers

There are many situations when the best way (or even the only way!) to make a deal or sign a contract is in person. This situation becomes more and more frequent in our global world, when business traveling is a rather common occurrence.

However, it is equally true that business traveling comes with some costs and it is very good to know some tips on how to keep them to the minimum.

The first step should be planning ahead. It reduces some costs because advance purchases in terms of airfare, accommodation etc. typically bring discounts. Another good strategy is staying longer, be sure to note there are wonderful extended stay suites San Antonio area and most major cities, because one or two days will be more expensive than three or four days; the price will go even lower if you also include a Saturday night in your business traveling schedule.

As a rule of thumb, if your schedule is fluid rather than set in stone, and changing may appear, you should avoid advanced purchases without checking carefully the change policy, otherwise you may end up paying unexpected fees.

Other good saving strategies for business travelers include using lower cost airlines and traveling off-season. The cost of ground transportation is often another costly factor, so consider renting a car if you need it, or get information about shared shuttles or metros.

A Closer Look at the Most Notable Weather Patterns in Texas

Because of the size and positioning of the state of Texas, climate conditions can vary greatly depending on what part of the state you are located on. While the inland areas experience a dry, continental climate, the Gulf Coast has a maritime weather pattern that also leads to a much more humid climate close to the border with Louisiana.

As for the temperature in Texas, you’ll find temperatures of well over 100 degrees during most summers, not to worry though fabulous San Antonio vacation rentals all have air conditioning. While this may be a great advantage if you like warmer weather, the weather conditions in the west of the state can be harder to deal with because of the intense dryness. As for the lower temperatures, they rarely fall below 25-30 degrees, and you can expect some of the lowest to be in December and January.

The spring is the time when storms usually hit Texas full blast. Aside from the fact that these months – especially the end of spring – can be remarkably wet, it’s important to note that part of the state is at the exact place of convergence between western and southern winds, which leads to the formation of tornadoes.

One of the most beautiful places in Texas is the Piney Woods area in the east. Here you can experience a genuine humid subtropical climate that is also the wettest in the region. The combination of moderate to heavy rainfall and stunningly dense forest regions will make nature lovers crave to visit this area.

5 Great Tips for Saving a Lot of Money on Vacation

People usually set up their plan for the holiday, and expect everything to go as clockwork. But did you know you can actually save a lot of money while you’re visiting your favorite places out of town or even outside the country? The following tips will show you how.  You can find great savings reserving extended stay suites San Antonio offers, too!

  1. Use Technology to Find the Best Shopping Places

Shopping for souvenirs, disposables, clothing or anything else you need can be expensive. Instead of going to the regular shopping centers, use apps to find your way to the lesser known stores, and save a lot of money in the process.

  1. Pack Medicines You Might Not Need

You never know when you might get sick. Pack medicine from home, to avoid spending twice or three times as much out of necessity.

  1. Don’t Use Your Own Toiletries

Since most hotels will provide you with good quality soap, shampoo and a host of other toiletries, it’s pointless to bring your own from home. Just travel light, and enjoy the perks of staying at a good hotel.

  1. Wear Layers of Clothing

To avoid the temptation of buying expensive clothes from a shop that overprices everything sold to tourists, pack some extra clothing, and wear layers. That way you can simply remove the top layer if it gets too warm.

  1. Research Public Transport

If you’re low on cash, make sure to research public transport instead of using cabs and car rental services. You can save a lot of money by simply knowing the local bus and tram schedules in the place you’re visiting.

Details you need to know when looking for corporate housing

People with jobs that require traveling and extended stays in particular locations know that hotels are not the best choice for every case, considering that they are the most expensive option and the costs add up insanely fast. The good news is that corporate housing exists as a great alternative.

Corporate housing is also known as temporary housing, or corporate/executive apartments, and it doesn’t refer only to the rented space, but also to the services included.

Who can be a client of corporate housing?

Like we said, traditionally, business travelers use this option, but there are many other clients from other industries as well:

  • researchers
  • stage and film crews
  • consultants
  • reassigned military service members
  • project managers
  • contracted programmers etc.

Extended stay suites San Antonio area has surely gained popularity in recent years. The big advantage of choosing this option is that you do not have to worry anymore about furniture and utilities – everything is included in the price and you will get a place that feels like home, fully serviced and offering a high level of privacy. Tourist Attractions In San Antonio: Alamo And Riverwalk

If you want a short description of San Antonio, in terms of tourist attraction, we would simply say “Alamo and Riverwalk”. Alamo represents the history, the foundation of this city, and Riverwalk is the pride of well-done work in modern times.  San Antonio vacation rentals offer nice places to stay at the end of your busy day.

Alamo is well-known due to movies that have been made on this topic. It is a fort built in the beginning of the foundation of the US, its purpose being to defend the southern border. Alamo is often referred to as the “Shrine of Texas Liberty” and remains one of the great symbols of the struggle to create and consolidate what is today the United States of America.

The remains of the Alamo mission are located in downtown San Antonio, surrounded by monuments dedicated to that historical moment.

As about Riverwalk – it is a fantastic place in deed. The fact that a river passes through San Antonio is no big deal; in an arid area, it is logical for people to build their homes around a source of water. The fact that the river is small, again, is a trivial detail. Nevertheless, what is truly amazing is the way that the banks of this river have been transformed into an extraordinary promenade: five kilometers of sidewalk designs with vegetation, waterfalls, restaurants and shops – Riverwalk is the magnet of the entire city.

Do You Know the Difference Between Extended Stay Hotels vs. Hotels

At Dwelling Suites,  we are not your standard hotel. We specialize in fully furnished apartments and extended stay in San Antonio. Our rentals are perfect if you are planning on a longer trip and you want your hotel to feel more like your home. Do you know

Extended Stay Hotels vs. Hotels Whether in town for business or pleasure, people who intend to stay around for some time should consider choosing an extended stay hotel over a traditional hotel. Doing so makes it possible to enjoy a range of benefits that are difficult to secure with a regular hotel. In the end, you’ll find that having accommodations that feel more like home make it much easier to enjoy the day and come back to the hotel for some downtime and relaxation.

The Cost of Extended Stay Hotels While traditional hotels are fine if you plan on flying in and staying for a few days, they can be quite expensive for anyone who needs to remain in town for several weeks. Rather than spending all that money, it makes sense to locate a comfortable extended stay hotel and set up temporary housekeeping there.

It doesn’t matter why you are going to be around for a few weeks. For business people, residing at an extended stay hotel means that employers will enjoy the fact that the cost of the trip can be kept under a certain amount. If you happen to be staying in town for a long vacation, the money you save can easily be diverted to other pursuits, such as exploring the nightlife or seeing everything that the area has to offer.

Cooking During the Trip With traditional hotels, suites often include refrigerators, microwave ovens and coffee makers. While that’s fine for snacks, it doesn’t really help out much if you want a home cooked meal. By staying in an extended stay hotel, you can have access to a fully functional kitchen and cook whenever you like.

Even with smaller suites in extended stay facilities, you can look forward to having a galley kitchen that includes all the essentials. Along with the items usually provided at traditional hotels, you’ll also find an oven, range top and a few pots and pans on hand for your use.

While eating out is a lot of fun, it can eventually become tiresome if done day after day. This option can also get a little expensive. The ability to buy food and prepare it in your suite not only means you can fix something while relaxing in the evenings, but also makes it possible to keep your food budget to a reasonable level.

Personalized Services Most extended stay hotels will provide personalized services that are not necessarily available at more traditional hotels. For example, you can customize the message for your voice mail, something that most other types of hotels do not allow. For guests who are planning to stay for at least a week, postal mail services can also be established. You will often have the choice of using laundry services provided by the management or washing and drying your clothes at a coin operated Laundromat on the premises.

Between the ability to feel at home and the fact that the overall cost is very competitive with other forms of lodging, it pays to consider an extended stay hotel if you plan on being in town for a week or more. Check different hotels in town and find one that is located in an area you like and offers the amenities that will help you settle in comfortably. read more at extendedstayhotelnetwork.com

Extreme Heat for Battle of Flowers Parade and Fiesta

If you are going out to enjoy the festival this weekend remember to bring some water because it is going to be a scorcher! And if you find that it’s getting too hot for you there is no shame in coming back to your fully-furnished apartment at Dwelling Suites and cranking the AC!

http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/local/article/Heat-advisory-issued-ahead-of-Battle-of-Flowers-11103594.php?ipid=brkbarCity issues level 3 heat advisory ahead of Battle of Flowers parade – San Antonio Express-News The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District has issued a high-level heat advisory for Friday and Saturday, where temperatures are expected to be in the mid-90s for the Battle of Flowers Parade and other Fiesta activities.

The heat index will be between 90 and 108 degrees for two consecutive days, making the notice a level III advisory, a Metro Health news release states.

The Battle of Flowers parade will wind its way through downtown San Antonio around noon Friday, when the National Weather Service projects it to be 94 degrees.

Food and music was the order of the evening Friday, April 21, 2017, in San Antonio’s central suburb Alamo Heights for Fiesta’s Annual Alamo Heights Night. All the usual suspects abounded, from funnel cakes and turkey legs to sausage on a stick and gorditas.

“Particularly with all the Fiesta activities taking place on Friday and Saturday, it is imperative that people drink plenty of water to prevent complications from the heat,” said Dr. Vincent Nathan, Metro Health assistant director.

Locals began claiming prime parade spots as early as Monday morning, and sightings of chairs, campsites and bleachers have slowly appeared on Broadway throughout the week.

I stayed in dwelling suites for about six months last year and had a great experience! Not only are they reasonably priced, they’re located a little outside of Alamo Heights, which is a really nice area–and known to be very pricey to live.

The suites were very homey–didn’t feel like I was staying in an uncomfortable hotel. Nicely furnished, and had a comfy bed. Kitchen was stocked up on anything you needed to cook–which was nice not having to make last minute runs to the store for a strainer or can opener, or anything else you wouldn’t think to bring along.

I had a couple issues while there, one with internet connection and another with parking, which were resolved pretty much right away–so really weren’t much of an issue at all. Other than that, everything was good!

The staff was super helpful with anything I needed, and any issues I had were addressed right away. Totally made for a stress-free, enjoyable stay.

I would DEFINETLY recommend it, especially if you want to avoid paying an outrageous amount for anywhere else in the area!

Rest Easy In Your Fully-Furnished Dwelling Suite, Asteroid Is NOT Hitting Earth!

An asteroid is set to whiz by earth this Wednesday, April 19. All of our Dwelling Suites guests can rest easy in their fully-furnished suites though because there is no chance that it will hit the earth. If the clouds break, you might want to grab a telescope and look to the sky because the next close encounter won’t be until 2027. If you ask us that’s fine because it can be a little unsettling that a massive rock is speeding toward us.

http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/local/article/Large-asteroid-to-whiz-by-Earth-Wednesday-11080568.phpLarge asteroid to whiz by Earth Wednesday – San Antonio Express-News NASA is confident the world will not be destroyed by a large asteroid that will pass Earth on Wednesday.

The asteroid is expected to pass safely at a distance of about 1.1 million miles, or about 4.6 times the distance from Earth to the moon.

The pass is the closest heavenly encounter since asteroid Toutatis, a 3.1-mile space rock, flew by 13 years ago. That asteroid came within four lunar distances from Earth.

“Although there is no possibility for the asteroid to collide with our planet, this will be a very close approach for an asteroid of this size,” according to NASA.

See what it would look like if an asteroid hit different U.S. cities, including San Antonio, in the gallery above.

Wednesday’s asteroid, roughly 2,000 feet wide, will approach Earth from the direction of the sun and will become visible in the night sky after Wednesday. NASA says it’s predicted to brighten to about magnitude 11, when it could be visible in small optical telescopes for one or two nights before it fades as the distance from Earth rapidly increases.

Sky and Telescope says “because of its size and proximity, it will be bright enough to spot in a small, backyard telescope and moving fast enough to see in real time.”

Even if you have a decent telescope and know where to look – rolling west across Coma Berenices – mostly cloudy skies will hide its passage in the night sky.

The next close encounter with an asteroid will be in 2027 when the half-mile-wide asteroid 1999 AN10 will fly by at one lunar distance, about 236,000 miles. Read more…

Festival crowds grew from 5,000 in its first year to an estimated 100,000 visitors over three days.

The People of San Antonio Make This City Great

San Antonio is one of the best communities in the world. There’s never a shortage of fun activities but the people in our community are one of the biggest reasons that San Antonio is a great place for an extended stay.

The people of our community are always helping to make San Antonio the best place it can be. Check out this story on some of our awesome citizens!

http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/local/article/Habitat-for-Humanity-celebrates-its-1-000th-home-11027980.phpHabitat for Humanity celebrates its 1,000th home in San Antonio – San Antonio Express-News Two Decembers ago, 7-year-old Raelyn Marie Guevara came home from Roy Cisneros Elementary on the West Side and handed her mom, Reyna, a neon green Habitat for Humanity flier she had picked up at school.

“Mom was like, ‘Oh, we can’t ever qualify for one of those things,’” said Raelyn, now 8, on a bright, busy Saturday morning. “And I was like, `Oh, come on, Mom, just fill it out. You never know.’”

Raelyn was beaming as she told the story, with her grandmother beside her, just moments before she got to see for the first time the Habitat home that was built for her, Reyna and a second child on the way all because she nudged her mom two years ago.

The single-story, 3-bedroom house, is one of 14 located in Lenwood Heights, a new neighborhood off Acme Road on the West Side, that Habitat dedicated Saturday, celebrating the 1,000th home that the San Antonio chapter — the oldest Habitat affiliate in America — has constructed since its founding by a local Presbyterian pastor’s wife, Faith Lytle, in 1976.

Hundreds of Habitat volunteers, full-time construction workers, future homeowners and well-wishers filled the tidy neighborhood yesterday, as crews of Valero volunteers wheeled out new sod to front lawns, swept driveways and mingled with real carpenters doing measurements for cabinets. Read more…

Calling All Rolling Stones Fans!

Are you a Rolling Stones fan? Are you doing an extended stay with us at Dwelling Suites this weekend? If you answered yes, you are going to want to set aside some time this Sunday to check out some never before seen photos of the band when they came through San Antonio in 1975.

http://www.mysanantonio.com/entertainment/music-stage/article/Never-before-seen-photos-of-Rolling-Stones-on-11017668.phpNever-before-seen photos of Rolling Stones on display in San Antonio – San Antonio Express-News

What: “Rolling Stones Tour 1975: Memories at TexPop”
When: 2-5 p.m. Sunday
Where: South Texas Museum of Popular Culture, 1017 E. Mulberry Ave.

On June 3, 1975, the Rolling Stones arrived at HemisFair Arena for a two-night stand. The opening night was one of the most notorious in San Antonio rock ’n’ roll lore, generating front-page headlines and threats of a vice squad bust.

It was the official kickoff of the Stones’ “Tour of the Americas ’75,” though the band had played two tuneup gigs a couple of days earlier in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The lasting image from the San Antonio tour stop is of the band — Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Bill Wyman and newest member, Ron Wood — posing in front of the Alamo.

It’s a dazzling visual. Jagger is wrapped in a British flag. A menacing looking Richards is holding a confederate flag. Wood, wearing a halter top, is holding the Texas flag and Wyman is wearing a coonskin cap. Watts just glares.

A few hours later, Jagger, dressed as a puppet, would generate controversy (amid squeals of delight) as he danced provocatively with a sideman, keyboardist Billy Preston, and simulated a sexual act; later, Jagger straddled and whipped a billowing, stories-high balloon-like prop shaped like a phallus.

That’s the moment that Avila, a visual artist, photographer and founding member of the #2 Dinners, realized he should have brought his camera. read more at mysanantonio.com

Only a Glimpse of San Antonio in 36 Hours

We have been telling you for a while now that San Antonio is one of the best cities in the world because there is so much to do and see. That is one of the reasons we offer extended vacation rentals in San Antonio.

The word finally got out to our friends at the New York Times—we’re guessing that they heard from us—and one of their travel writers did a story on their 36 hours in San Antonio. Take it from us—and we’re talking to you Times reporter—36 hours is only enough to get a glimpse of all that San Antonio has to offer. Next time make sure to book an extended stay at Dwelling Suites and spend 36 days in San Antonio if you really want to see what this great city has to offer.

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/03/23/travel/what-to-do-36-hours-in-san-antonio-texas.html?_r=036 Hours in San Antonio The Missions of San Antonio, five 18th-century Catholic outposts including the Alamo, erected by the Spanish, are strung out from downtown south over nearly eight miles. The southern expansion of the River Walk generally traces the route, and the presence of the shared bike service B Cycle (rentals $12 a day) at every mission means cyclists can bike from site to site by following the river. Most, including the unadorned stone Mission Concepción, the whitewashed Mission San Juan and the more rural Mission Espada, post information for self-guided tours. Don’t miss the largest and most fully restored, Mission San José, which offers films and talks on mission history. Non-bikers can hop the new Viva Missions (No. 40) bus route (one-day pass, $2.75).

Dock your B Cycle north of downtown at the Luxury, now remodeled, a compound of picnic tables, chair swings overlooking the River Walk and a pair of cargo containers, one repurposed as a kitchen with a food-truck-style window, and the other a beer-centric bar. Its name might be odd for what is essentially a beer garden, but there’s nothing indirect about the food, including buttermilk chicken sandwiches ($9.75), six-ounce burgers ($9.75) and addictive twice-blanched fries ($4.50). read more at nytimes.com

SXSW Brings Some Extra Traffic and Funny Signs

If you are staying with us at Dwelling Suites in San Antonio you have probably already heard that the next couple weeks are going to have some pretty crazy traffic. That is just one of the trade-offs of having a world-renowned festival take over the city.

If the traffic has got you down you might get some enjoyment out of these photos!

http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/local/texas/article/Hilarious-Austin-sign-offers-traffic-tips-for-10992649.php#photo-12526573Hilarious sign mocking Austin’s confusing roads welcomes SXSW visitors, goes viral – San Antonio Express-News As throngs of visitors descend upon Austin for South by Southwest, locals are offering tips on how to avoid traffic tie-ups, including one local business that revealed the irony behind some of the city’s highway names.

Owner Ryan Petty came up with the quip this week and shared a video of the sign on his business’ Facebook page Wednesday morning. Since then, the video and versions of it posted by other Facebook users has racked up almost half a million views and more than 10,000 shares.

“We thought it would be a good idea to give all the SXSW visitors a taste of how backwards our road systems are here,” said Petty.

Petty said he tries to come up with new messages regularly for commuters to see along Highway 71/Ben White Boulevard, across from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. He also posts them on Instagram.

Petty, who has lived in Austin for almost 20 years, launched Imperial Traffic about six months ago. The company provides barricades and traffic signs and helps the city coordinate road closures.

With the yearly SXSW conference and festival kicking off today, many Austinites have taken to social media to vent their traffic frustrations. See them in the gallery above.
Petty’s go-to tip for all visitors?

“Avoid I-35 at all costs.” See more…
