Did You See The Strawberry Festival Last weekend?

While there is always a ton of stuff going on in San Antonio sometimes you just want to get out of the city for a little while. Just south of San Antonio the town of Poteet, hosted their 70th Strawberry Festival this last weekend.

The weather was beautiful and judging from the pictures there were smiles all around and everyone was having a great time celebrating this long-held tradtion. Did anyone leave their Dwelling Suites, fully furnished apartment in San Antonio to go and check it out?

The Poteet Strawberry Festival, held in the town about 30 miles south of the Alamo City, has its roots in 1948 as a way of encouraging returning World War II veterans to farm and promote the local agriculture, according to San Antonio Express-News archives.

Albert Reyes grows strawberries near Poteet, Texas. Much of his strawberry crop will sell at the annual Poteet Strawberry Festival.

Festival crowds grew from 5,000 in its first year to an estimated 100,000 visitors over three days.

In 2015, Poteet was officially dubbed the “Official Strawberry Capital of Texas” by the Texas State Legislature.

Strawberries, food, carnival rides and Texas favorites like Easton Corbin, La Mafia, Los Musicales, Elida Reyna and Jon Wolfe contributed to this year’s entertainment options. Read more…
